Oh, my!! My kitchen this morning. Oh, how do we get so busy??? Gotta start revising and editing my novel, but about a bushel of plums are calling my name from the pantry! And the ingredients for a couple of big recipes - for tomorrow’s church dinner- sit in the freezer, fridge, and cans…waiting to be assembled.
I spent most [...]

Another funny story. Jim can walk up to the pasture fence behind our house, call the cows, and they come running! It’s been a standing joke for years in our family that he can call his cows wherever they are. No one else could do it like he could. Well, now, I’ve bested him. The [...]

Jim went back to the field at 10:30 last night and returned around 3:30 or 4 am. Baled the next to the last field. He fluffed outside rounds on the last field and is hauling in what he baled during the night. We have only one field left; I’m so thankful. We had rain a [...]

We started baling hay today…our second cutting. Jim actually baled a couple of small fields last night and started early, about dawn on a bigger field. Before the balewagon can [...]

Beautiful days here, although it got down to 34 degrees night before last. My tomatoes and peppers survived, though! We have a big field to bale, probably today, and I figure I might get to bale some of it. My hubby has insisted I continue my writing so far, and has baled all of first cut himself. [...]

Summer is upon us; the nights are warm and the days pretty hot. Our days have not been lazy ones, however. All our hay is down and a couple of fields are about ready to bale, so we’ll be running around like “chickens with their heads chopped off,” as my mom used to say. When [...]

When I returned from the corrals today, this turkey was outside our fence, trying to get in the yard. I snapped a picture, but, as you can see, it must’ve suspected foul play!

We had a new baby calf this morning. Precious! This is the third in the last two weeks. We calve nearly year-round here, and with a small herd, a new one is always exciting! This one is quite agressive and making sure it gets plenty to eat. I haven’t investigated whether it’s male or female [...]
